The Mississippi Hippies "Big smoke records"

The Mississippi Hippies are a canadian veteran band with greying hair that litterally bring back to life '50s and '60s rhythm'n'blues. Totally anachronistic, the Mississippi Hippies come from Toronto and are formed by three rock veterans backed up by a trombone, a tenor sax, an organ and a sax. Singer blessed with a powerful voice that only long smokey nights on whisky have the secret, John Dickie is as well a saxophone player that generously brings his contribution to the Telecaster 56 riffs of guitarist Gordie Leggat. The story goes that back in 1969, Hugh Leggat, hippy fellow and brother of Gordie recorded in the same N.Y. studio as Led Zeppelin just the day before them, who at that time were working on ''Led Zep II''. In spite of the contradictory name they took, as ''Mississippi'' refers to rhythm'n'blues and ''Hippies'' to the flower power of californian psychedelic sixties bands such as Love, Jefferson Airplane or The Quicksilver Messenger Service, the MH convince by their fervour and their enthusiasm. Not only do they reconcile good ol' fifties rock'n'roll with Frisco's Peace, Love & Freedom spirit, but during the whole album, the tone is light, catchy and urges us to dance, thumping your feet to the rhythm or shaking in a frenzy boogie-woogie on the dancefloor!
Totally isolated from the world since decades, the MH are a geniune tribute to the sound of the Ches and Sun years!
